Check out the guy in the black shirt…

Vanitha, Dec 15-21, 2008. Aswathy Ashok on cover.
One beautiful December evening Pedro and his girlfriend Rosita were sitting by the side of the ocean. It was a romantic full moon, when Pedro said, “Hey, mamacita, let’s do Weeweechu.”
“Oh no, not now, let’s look at the moon!” said Rosita.
“Oh, c’mon baby, let’s you and I do Weeweechu.
I love you and it’s the perfect time,” Pedro begged.
“But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon.” replied Rosita
“Please, corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me.”
Rosita looked at Pedro and said, “OK, just one time, we’ll do Weeweechu.”

Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang…
Weeweechu a Merry Christmas,
Weeweechu a Merry Christmas,
Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.”

Since everybody and his patti was online last month celebrating the biggest thing to hit Indian television since the advent of colour, I decided the thravadi thing to do was to stay away. Lekin, control nahin hote…
So, here goes…A week after the attack, we were in Mumbai for a seminar. Told our cabbie that we wanted to go see the Taj. The guy wasn’t very happy, “udhar mausam thoda kharab hei”…anyway, we did the terror tourism triangle: Oberoi – Taj – Leopold Café, shot a few pics on the mobile and had a pint of the fabled Mumbai spirit.
Next evening. After the seminar. Airport. While walking towards security check, we saw a group of around 20 paramilitary guys crowding the corridor outside a shop. We thought some suspect was being questioned inside, we thought a seige was on…

Though a little tense, we inched up the corridor – this Mumbai spirit is contagious – and peeked into the store to see what was happening inside…and we saw what the cops were all so intently staring at – an old Dharmendra movie playing on a huge LCD screen. BHH.

IBN Live Story
I am not a fan of Parvathy and had not been tracking her ‘great journey’ from Kottayam to Jo’burg. Actually…if i may use a malluism, if it was not for my insomnia, i would not have known about this breaking story on IBN.
Congrats Paru!
Now, what would be Achu Mama’s response…

Nostalgic bit about the good-old-days…

Thanks Chittapps.
No country for old men, eh?
Ferreting out the ‘inspiration’ behind popular B-K-T-Mollywood movies and songs is a thriving cottage industry. While Wiki is still the best source for info about movies (Saroja: Judgement Night, Dasdivaniya: My Life Without Me/ Bucket List) not many sites can beat itwofs.com (I-two FS, Inspirations in Indian Film Songs) when it comes to giving Anu Malik-types sleepless nights.
But what ’bout balposh? (Sangham-speak for wall posters).
I remember the time when brick-effect-on-Vijaykanth’s-face was very cutting-edge for Tamil movie poster art. Today, the writing (pasting? sticking?) on the wall is very clear. Tamil movie posters have distanced themselves from the Dravidian political poster funda (check out the Krish Ashok’s take), and discovered cool – innovative layouts, unusual colour combinations, unreadable typography.
But the 35 bucks DVD to 35mm formula seems to have impacted poster design also (I had blogged about Siva Mansula Sakthu and Satyam posters, didn’t want to blog about Billa and Eagen titles, Lost inspired layouts, the connection between SaSi and SS Music…)
Then last month I saw something in Landmark that can only happen in the world of cut-and-paste – Ranbir Kapoor kissing Evan Rachel Wood. The blues and the greens were exactly the same, the actors positioned at exactly the same angle, I couldn’t make out where Saawariya ended and where Across the Universe began.
Jai guru deva…Saawariya Saawariya…
